Solved: Not seeing Netgear_EXT When Setting Up Netgear Range Extender EX7700

In this particular article section, we will try to provide you with the best troubleshooting steps if your desktop, laptop, or any wireless devices is not detecting the Network SSID name. This can take place if your Netgear EX7700 extender is not broadcasting the Network SSID name or your WiFi range extender is not booted up completely.

Before moving towards the troubleshooting steps, try to reboot your EX7700 range extender and try to connect again. If your WiFi-enabled desktop or laptop is still not able to detect the Network SSID name. You need to examine whether your Netgear EX7700 extender is broadcasting its Network SSID or not.

How to Confirm if Netgear EX7700 Extender is Broadcasting its SSID?

  • Connect your WiFi-enabled desktop or laptop to the Netgear EX7700 extender via an Ethernet cable.

  • Open the EX7700 extender GUI using mywifiext net setup page.

  • You will be prompted for email and password, just mention the registered email and password that you have used during the extender setup. Otherwise if asking for username and password, mention the default Netgear extender login credentials.

  • Once you landed on the Netgear EX7700 configuration page, visit WiFi settings and check either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi is enabled or not. Also, the Network SSID name should also be checked mark.

  • Click on the Save button.

Note: For some of the older range-extender version. You need to visit Netgear Genie UI, Then you have to visit Advanced – WiFi settings. Then checkmark on the “Enable SSID Broadcast” and “Enable Wireless Access Point”.

  1. Confirm the Wireless Network SSID name of your Netgear EX7700 range extender and ensure that you are found the correct wireless network SSID name.

Not seeing Netgear_EXT. Check the Blinking of Power LED

If you are unable to find the Netgear_EXT during or after Netgear WiFi extender setup and your Netgear EX7700 extender power LED is blinking. Then this can occur due to firmware corrupt or your range extender is getting insufficient power supply.

  • Ensure that your Netgear EX7700 is connected well with the proper power source.

  • Try to reset your Netgear range extender either by inserting a paper clip or sim card pin into the reset hole for near about 20 seconds or a half minute.

  • If the power LED is still blinking, download and save it into your desktop. Once downloaded, try to install the Netgear extender latest firmware version.

  • Once you have all the important needed files, perform a hard reset and power cycle your range extender afterwards.

Note: It is important to do a hard reset before moving a step ahead for the firmware recovery. Ensure that your Netgear EX7700 extender is on its factory store default settings.

  1. Try to connect your desktop or laptop with Ethernet cable to the EX7700 range extender before performing the firmware recovery procedure. To confirm that the range extender should be on its default settings.

DNS 1 & DNS 2: You can leave these boxes empty. Somehow if you want to fill them. Mention and in DNS 1 and DNS 2 boxes respectively

  • Restart your desktop or laptop.
  • Once your laptop or desktop is ready to use. Open the CMD and try to ping the Netgear extender IP address i.e.
  • If you are able to ping successfully to the Netgear EX7700 extender proceed towards the next step. If fails, the range extender firmware is beyond the recovery mode.
  • Run the TFTP software.
  • Type the IP address in the server box and passphrase or security key in the password box.
  • Tap on the file section, click on the browse button and select the latest firmware version.
  • Press the upgrade button and look for the message that will pop-up on the display.
  • If you found the message stating that the firmware upgrade is done successfully, change the IP address of your desktop to DHCP protocol again.
  • Perform another hard reset process and try to set up your Netgear EX7700 extender again.
