Kiteboard Rocker

  • How does a kiteboard's rocker differ from a regular surfboard's? Is rocker really going to make you fly better upwind? Get your questions answered!

Characteristics Of A Board

Today, we will continue our series about board characteristics and how they may affect your riding style. There is another blog that has been made on the outline of the kiteboard and how to choose the perfect one.

Rocker On Freestyle Kiteboards

If you have a lot of rockers, the board will feel loose and twitchy. Extreme rocker can make the board feel too nervous, making it uncomfortable to ride. If you are a freestyler, you might enjoy this because it allows you to get the board higher.

Rocker On Big Wave Kiteboards

A board with more rocker is easier to kick up in the air. Also, if you ride bigger waves, the rocker follows the curves of the wave so the board is loose and very fast off the bottom. Rocker can cause you to lose control and track.

Flat Rocker

You can also find a board with a very flat rocker line if you move to the opposite end of the spectrum. A board with a flatter rocker line is more stable. The balance between these two makes it easy to board the plane. This gives you better light wind capability and allows it to go upwind better.

Flat Rocker vs. Snappiness

A really flat rocker can cause you to lose your snappiness. Sometimes, the board will just want to go straight. This is especially true when the winds are strong or the waves get big. The kite pulls you and the wave pushes you. You really want to flip that board into the bottom of the wave but the board tells you no. This is something you don’t want.

Flat Rocker vs. Upwind Ability

A flatter worker may be better for you if you ride on a lot of flat water.

Rocker On The Stage

Rockers can be described as being somewhere in between. They are the stage that is flatter in the middle for going upwind, and then they can be moved further back. You can move your weight upwind by moving your tail over the accelerated rocker.
