  1. Improve focus and deal with distraction: Many times, athletes try to concentrate but often lose their focus on the wrong areas such as when a goalkeeper thinks “I need to save that hockey puck” while in the goalkeeper box, which is a result-oriented focus.

  2. Grow confidence in athletes who have doubts: We know that doubt is the opposite of confidence. If you have any doubts during your performance, then it could indicate low self-esteem of you not being confident at the start of the competition. Confidence is a way to get back up when someone is telling you you can’t do it.

  3. Develop coping skills to deal with setbacks and errors: Emotional control is a way to get back into the zone. Many athletes don’t realize that having very high and strict expectations can sometimes give trouble dealing with problems and that’s totally natural part of sports. It is extremely important to allow athletes to express themselves and expect and assist them to stay under pressure when committing errors or even getting frustrated. In the end, the athlete must learn how to control their emotions.

  4. Develop confidence post-injury: When comes injuries. The majority of athletes find themselves physically prepared to get back into the competition or even practice. But are they mentally ready? Injuries can hurt confidence and that can make them feel that they have lost everything. So helping athletes mentally to heal from injuries and deal with the fear of re-injury can allow the athlete to focus on there practice or competition.
