The connecting rod is a link in several types of mechanisms. Usually, one end is designed to follow a circular path, while the other end follows a straight line or curve of a large radius. However, the term is sometimes applied to any straight link that transmits motion or force from one linkage to another within a mechanism.

The connecting rod bearing is a type of product that we may not be very familiar with. It provides the surfaces on which the crankshaft and piston pin ride and is a crucial aspect of a well-running engine. This type of bearing is quite important to the entire engine. If you are going to overhaul the engine, replacing this type of bearing is a routine part. But its replacement is not very easy. Therefore, you should follow some good guides to do the job better.
First of all, you should disconnect the connecting rods from the pistons and the crankshaft if they are still attached. And remove the rod and end cap, which are bolted to the crankshaft with two-rod bolts on the larger end. But at the other end, the rod is attached to the piston with a piston pin.
Second, you should remove the old bearings from the rod. Tap the top edge of the bearings to loosen them. Then you need to clean the entire surface of the rod very thoroughly with a degreaser or mineral spirits.
Third, simply slide one bearing into the larger end of the rod and another bearing into the end cap. The bearing should slide down into the curved part of the rod. Then you need to push out a small, round bearing that the wrist pin slides through and rides on. Press or tap in the new bearing, being careful not to scratch or damage any surfaces.
