What Are Flange Bearings?

Generally, bearings have a symmetric shape to maintain stability and work effectively. Unlike them, flange bearings have two different ends. They have one straight end and another end with a lip or what the bearing manufacturing company calls — a flange.

They have a metal-dominant structure with a sintered layer of bronze. To further the efficacy of the bearings, thermoplastic is overlaid. This overlay increases the fatigue strength of the bearings by a fair margin.

These are copper-based alloys made of iron and nickel. Yet, aluminum is used as the major alloying element. This composition makes the aluminum bronze material — one of the best performing materials.
