Are Pop Pods Safe

Pop Pods new products such as puff bars come in a range of appealing flavors, similar to what Juul uses to sell, says Myers, who advocates for tobacco-free children. The aromas cut through the hardness of the tobacco. Puffballs are vapor pens that look like extended sticks. A 300-leaf bar can contain as much nicotine as two or three packs of cigarettes.

She received a bag of confiscated vape sticks and pens from a principal at a Northern California high school, which was collected and shared with her. She said the products were still new and the landscape was changing, so it was difficult to know how many teenagers were using them. Studies show that nicotine can be addictive and harmful to adolescents developing brains.

In addition to disposable vape sticks and reusable cartridges, flavored nicotine liquids, so-called e-liquids, are also available. He said manufacturers had figured out how to deliver more nicotine to young people than cigarette makers, and they were less addictive.

Big Tobacco has taken an extended foray into vaping, mostly in the form of cheap single-use convenience store vapors. These are the devices where you are most likely to come across chemicals such as diacetyl and other potentially hazardous ingredients. They are widespread, cheap, and often what people start when they try to quit smoking.

Steaming raises its own concerns, especially when it comes to teenagers. A major concern among teens and some vaping parents is that vaping could serve as a gateway to smoking conventional cigarettes. In a sense, this could be seen as a good thing, as there is no choice between vaping and smoking, and vaping is generally safer than the harmful chemicals produced by burning tobacco paper.

Although e-cigarette vapor is recognized as less dangerous than cigarette smoke, there is growing evidence that vapor can expose users to carcinogenic substances. Nicotine in Juul and other e-cigarettes and vaping liquids can lead to an increased risk of cancer.

The long-term side effects of vaping are not known, but Juul and other e-cigarettes have been linked to serious health problems such as severe lung injuries, seizures, nicotine addiction, poisoning and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Common side effects of vaping include a dry mouth and cough.

Calls for urgent action Harvard researchers are calling for urgent action to assess the extent of exposure to diacetyl, a related flavoring compound in e-cigarettes. Diacetyl is associated with a rare but serious lung disease called bronchiolitis obliterans or popcorn lung.

Researchers at Harvard University tested 51 types of flavored E-Cig cartridges for diacetyl and two other chemicals called 2,3-pentanedione and acetoin. They detected at least one of these compounds in 92 percent of the flavors tested.

Vitamin E acetate is a thickener used in THC vapor products, and it was found in lung fluid samples from patients studied by the CDC. The CDC has identified vitamin E as a worrying chemical for people with epilepsy.
