How To Get A Red Wine Stain Out of Carpet?

It doesn’t take much for a nice glass of wine to end up looking like a crime scene all over your nice and expensive carpet! So what do you do? First of all, don’t panic! In this article we’re going to go over a step by step process explaining how to remove a red wine stain from carpet. Let's get to it!

How to Remove Red Wine Stain from the Carpet?

The first thing you need to do is to grab a towel and soak up as much of the wine spill as you can from the carpet as quickly as possible. You want to avoid rubbing, as this could spread the wine spill or push it deeper into the carpet fibers. After you have most of the spill soaked up you can focus on removing the rest of the stain from the carpet.

Before we go any further you need to mix up a carpet cleaning detergent solution to apply to the stain.

To make your spot cleaning detergent solution, mix a tablespoon of vinegar and a ¼ teaspoon of powdered laundry detergent to 1 quart of warm water. (Make sure it is a non-bleach detergent) Mix all three together.

Using a clean white towel, dip it into your carpet detergent solution and blot the spill. Repeat until the wine stain is gone. Make sure to move on to a clean part of the cloth so that you are not spreading the stain.

Using Hydrogen Peroxide

If this is not removing the stain completely, add some Hydrogen Peroxide to your detergent solution and repeat the above steps until the stain is gone. You want to make sure to test your cleaning solution in an inconspicuous carpeted area first to make sure the peroxide doesn’t harm the color. Try it out in a corner or a closet.

Once your wine stain is removed, blot the area dry with a clean towel. If any staining remains, mist the area with the Hydrogen Peroxide. To prevent wicking, place a folded dry towel over the spot and place a book or other heavy object on top of the towel. This will let the stain wick up into the towel instead of the top of the carpet fibers.

Hopefully this article will help you in getting a wine stain out of the carpet. If you have tried the above steps and are still having trouble removing the stain, contact a professional carpet cleaning company like ABERDEEN CARPET CLEANING in Burlington, ON.
